ＡＢＵ（アジア太平洋放送連合）では、２００２年から「ＡＢＵアジア・太平洋ロボットコンテスト（ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest）」をＡＢＵの主催事業として、毎年開催することとし、第一回大会を2002年8月東京で開催いたしました。第二回大会は2003年8月タイ（バンコク市）で開催いたします。
このコンテストは、ＡＢＵに加盟するアジア・太平洋地域の国と地域から選抜された、大学・工科大学（ポリテクニック）の学生らによる代表チームが、与えられた競技課題に従って、自らのアイデアとチームワークを駆使してロボットを製作し、競技を通じて技術力と独創力を競う、全く新しいユニークなコンセプトの国際的教育イベントです。
アジア・太平洋地域の若いエンジニアたちの「モノづくり」に対する情熱と能力の育成と広範な人材と情報の交流を促し、２１世紀のアジア・太平洋地域の発展に貢献することを目的に開催するものです。
大会の模様は、大会に参加する各ABU加盟放送機関の国際共同制作により配信され、参加するそれぞれの放送機関を通じ、番組として広くアジア･太平洋地域で紹介されます。
The first ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest was held in Tokyo in the summer of year 2002. It is an annual event which is organised by ABU (Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union), and the second contest will be held in Thailand (Bangkok) in August 2003.
ABU Asia-Pacific Robot Contest is an international educational event with freshly unique concepts targeted for university, college and polytechnic students in the Asia-Pacific region. Under a common set of theme and rules, representative teams will compete with their peers in other countries by their hand-made robots, which reflect their creativity, technology and teamwork.
This contest aims to create friendships among young people with similar interests who will lead their countries in the 21st Century, as well as help advance engineering technologies in the region. Using international programme materials, the contest coverage will be broadcast in the region widely through the respective participating organisations.
